Frequently Asked Questions

What is a grievance and what am I grieving?

A property tax grievance is the process to challenge and reduce your property's assessed value. Your tax bill is calculated by multiplying the assessed value times that year's tax rates.

Why should I use I Grieve You Save?

Should I file a property tax grievance if I receive STAR or other exemptions?

Yes, filing a property tax grievance has no effect on any exemptions that you are receiving.

I received a reduction in prior years. Should I continue to file?

Filing a property tax grievance is the only option homeowners have to reduce their assessed value. We feel that it is a very good idea to file each year. Our flat fee pricing allows you to control your costs.

How much do you charge?

I Grieve You Save charges a Flat Fee of $210. We do not take any percentage of your savings!  We want you to keep your savings.

Why is I Grieve You Save different?

I Grieve You Save is run by a Nassau County homeowner who feels the same as you do and wanted to give back. We didn't think it was fair for a company to take 50% of your savings. We felt that the homeowner should reap the benefit of the savings. We are always available to speak to via email, phone, text.

What is the process to apply?

We have a form to complete. The form will take you just a few minutes to complete.  You can access the form here:  2026-2027 I Grieve You Save Form

What is included in the flat fee price?

I Grieve You Save will handle the filing process on your behalf.  Included in the flat fee price is researching your property, locating comparables and filing the initial property tax grievance. We will also file a re-appeal for the same year at no additional fee if the initial grievance receives no reduction.

What is the deadline to file this year?

The deadline to file this year is March 3, 2025. We request that you complete the form by February 20, 2025 so we have enough time to research and file your tax grievance.

Will you represent me at a SCAR hearing?

We do not represent property owners at SCAR hearings. We will provide information if you would like to go to a SCAR hearing.
